I was only ten years old, but that night was burned into my memory, tattooed sa puso ko. Ang Mafia ang sumira ng buhay ko.
My name is Janine.
My father, Ricardo de Silva, was a respected lawyer. He fought for the poor, the oppressed, the weak. He thought he could protect them.
Vargas, the head of the most powerful Mafia family in the Philippines. They barged into our house, hinanap ang ama ko, at walang awang pinatay. I watched it all, nakatago sa ilalim ng lamesa.
After that night, everything changed. My mother, broken and lost, tried her best to raise me. Pero hirap kami. Vargas' men made sure of it. They took our house, our money, our dignity. Namatay ang nanay ko sa sakit, five years after. I was alone.
I swore that I would avenge my parents. I spent years plotting, planning, waiting for the right moment. Nag-aral akong mag-self-defense, nag-aral akong gumamit ng baril, nag-aral akong maging invisible. I became a ghost, silently moving through the shadows, waiting for my chance.
Now, at twenty-three, I finally have my opportunity. I've managed to infiltrate Vargas' organization, working as a waitress in one of his casinos in Makati. I'm close to him. I see him every day. I hear his plans. I know his weaknesses.
His weakness? His only son, Hector Vargas. The heir to the Vargas empire. He's arrogant, ruthless, and incredibly handsome. Lahat ng babae, gustong maging kanya. But I see through his facade. I see the darkness in his eyes, the cruelty in his smile.
But he doesn't know who I am. He sees me as just another waitress, another face in the crowd. That's my advantage. That's my weapon.
One night, while serving him his usual whiskey, he looks at me, his eyes lingering longer than usual. "Anong pangalan mo?" tanong niya.
"Janine," sagot ko, trying to keep my voice steady.
He smiles, a slow, dangerous smile. "Janine. Magandang pangalan. Bagay sa magandang babae."
My heart pounds in my chest. This is it. This is my chance. But something unexpected happens. Something I didn't plan for.
He reaches out, his fingers brushing against my hand. A spark ignites between us. A forbidden attraction. A dangerous game.
"Samahan mo ako mamaya," he whispers, his voice low and seductive. "May gusto akong ipakita sa iyo."
I should refuse. I should stick to my plan. I should kill him. But I can't. There's something about him, something that pulls me in. Against my better judgment, I nod.
Later that night, he takes me to his private penthouse, overlooking the city lights of Manila. The view is breathtaking, but I'm more focused on him. He pours us both a glass of champagne.
"I like you, Janine," he says, his eyes locked on mine. "You're different. You're not like the other girls."
"What do you want from me, Hector?" I ask, trying to maintain control.
He steps closer, his body almost touching mine. "I want you to be mine."
Suddenly, the door bursts open. Two men in black suits rush in, their guns drawn. "Don Hector! May nagtangkang pumasok sa building!" sigaw ng isa.
Hector's eyes harden. He turns to me, his expression unreadable. "Stay here," he orders, before leaving with his men.
I'm left alone in his penthouse, my mind racing. Who tried to attack him? And why do I suddenly feel… worried about him?
I walk over to the window, looking down at the chaos below. Then, I see it. A figure in the shadows, holding a sniper rifle. Aiming directly at Hector.
Without thinking, I grab the nearest object – a heavy glass ashtray – and hurl it at the window. The glass shatters, the noise echoing in the penthouse. The sniper turns, startled, and misses his shot.
Hector looks up, his eyes widening in disbelief. He sees me standing at the shattered window, the ashtray still in my hand. He doesn't know what just happened. He doesn't know that I just saved his life. But I do. And I know that everything has just changed.
Am I still seeking revenge? Or have I fallen for the enemy?
